POLI 271 - Race, Gender, and Class in American Political Thought 1 unit(s) Studies of American political theory, particularly issues surrounding the meanings of democracy, political obligation, and equality. Readings include works about the government of Native American peoples, Spanish and English colonial rule, the U.S. Constitution, the post-Civil War amendments, women’s suffrage and women’s rights, and the political and constitutional challenges posed by a pluralistic or multicultural society. Mr. Stillman.
Prerequisite(s): Freshmen may take a 200-level course only with the permission of the instructor, which usually requires satisfactory completion of an introductory course. For sophomores, juniors, and seniors, an introductory course is recommended but not required.
