Haitian Creole: I. Introductory

  • CREO 105 - Beginning Haitian Creole

    This course introduces students to the language of Haitian Creole, also called Kreyòl Ayisyen, and is intended for students with little or no prior knowledge of the language. Haitian Creole is spoken by Haiti’s population of nine million and by about one million Haitians in the U.S. including over 190,000 in the New York City area. Through this course, students develop introductory speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. Silke von der Emde.

    Prerequisite(s): Special permission.

    Yearlong course CREO 105-106 .

    Two 60-minute periods.

  • CREO 298 - Independent Intermediate Haitian Creole

    Semester Offered: Fall and Spring

    This course continues grammatical instruction to an intermediate level and is structured around cultural themes of Haiti. Students practice patterns through communicative activities and exercises to gain fluency and spontaneity in conversations. Silke von der Emde.
