Compelling literature––poetry or play, novel or other narrative––has always inspired musical responses in composers. Such works may actually set words to music, or may seek to evoke and interpret the texts wordlessly through music. This course engages in close readings of text and music, exploring a variety of topics, languages, styles, genres, and eras. Kathryn Libin.
