Faculty: see geography and anthropology. The interdepartmental concentration in geography-anthropology combines perspectives of these two social sciences in an examination of the cultural, ecological, and spatial relations of human societies and their environments. Requirements for Concentration: 13 units, consisting of 6 units of geography, 6 units of anthropology, and Geography-Anthropology 300. In geography the following are required: 105a or b, 220 or 222, and 301; 1 unit of a 200-level regional course such aseither 235 or 240; 297.02 and at least one advanced 300-level seminar. In anthropology the following are required: at least 2 units of 200-level work, such as 1 unit from an area (ethnography) course, and 1 unit of an ethnology or archaeology course; and 2 units of 300-level work. Cartography (Geography 220) or Research Methods (Geography 222) should be taken not later than the junior year. Senior-Year Requirements: Geography-Anthropology 300, Geography 301. Recommendations: It is strongly recommended that students include a methods course in their curriculum, such as Geography 222, Economics 209, or Sociology 254. Field work or a study abroad experience in either anthropology or geography is recommended highly. Advisers: chairs of Departments of Anthropology and Geography.
